Three Restaurants In The City & Here's What We Think About Them

Replacing Karma - The Liquid Lounge from the early 2000s, Canto is perhaps the newest culinary addition to the food scene in Charni Road. As you enter you're greeted with two giant paintings sprawled across the wall of dancers.
 
The seating is spread over a voluminous floor and a tiny mezzanine area. The casual dining restaurant is furnished with comfortable couches, a mix of wooden and wrought iron chair and tables. What do we like best? How luminous the cafe looks along with the obvious sense of space, both owing to the ample sunlight flowing through the doors and windows.

We started sipping on The Red Rage and Mango Mary. The Red Rage was a spunky refreshing take on the usual watermelon juice and Mango Mary was a mix of cola and raw mango and spices it tasted like kala khatta. It sure could've been better.

Chermoula Prawns

 
For appetizers, we sampled Chermoula Prawns and Malai Chicken Sambusa. Crunchy prawns were mildly spiced in well-made chermoula marinade served on ragi crackers tasted like a flavourful yet finely balanced dish. Malai Chicken Sambusa, on the other hand, was slightly disappointing. Served on a flat board with a dot of dip hidden below the flat sambusas for some reason with random coriander garnish. While we liked the creamy the filling was, the dish could've been better.

Goat Cheese Sandwich

 
We also tried their Goat Cheese Sandwich, which was the definition of comfort food. We asked ourselves 'how many places serve a sandwich so basic yet so flavourful?' The gooey cheese trickled onto the plate, the earthy taste of the pesto, nutty walnut married the slight tartness of the fleshy tomatoes.

We started our mains with Banana Wrapped Fish and Pasta AOP. Patra fish came with a side of Parsley Rice and chutney. We liked that the fish was delicately cooked and the flavours had all seeped in, but the fillet wasn't deboned well. We chose spaghetti with the Aglio Olio, of course, and the dish was lovely.

Crepe Suzette

 
We finished our meal here with Molten Chocolate and Crepe Suzette. While the crepe was deliciously zesty, the Molten Chocolate was their version of choco lava cake. It came with a scoop of ice cream on top cascading over the cake. Even though it had very little chocolate sauce but that didn't bother us from polishing both our desserts off in no time.
 
We think it's a great restaurant, especially to have in an area like Girgaum where one a majority of veg dining options. It really bridges the gap between a gap between ShivSagar like restaurants to  We really like the restaurant and wouldn't mind going back, especially for the delicious Goat Cheese Sandwich.

Just opposite Nehru Planetarium, Bombay Brasserie has opened its doors to the city after over a decade.  We had a quick look inside and couldn't help but adore the quirky interiors, lovely cocktails, and delectable food.

Aam Papad Paneer is an absolute delight here. Cubes of lusciously soft yet firm paneer dressed in a savoury sauce, stands true to the name. Marathi Jhinga Mirch was a slight let down, they came on a bed of crushed peanuts and we think could've been spicier. Gunpowder Potatoes was another dish we relished here. Spicy podi on baby potatoes works its magic on our palate. We washed it down with Paua Cocktails - Gulabo and Janta Bar.

We savoured the lusciously soft Galouti Kebab; these were a fine balance of spices and tender meat. Naga Ghost Pepper Wings arrived in a dim sum steamer for some reason and weren't as spicy as we expected, having said that they had a smokey flavour and aroma to it. We washed it down with a cocktail, wait, a potent cocktail called Fauji Party Special. We got nostalgic as we saw Molly Lolly arrive.

We arrived at our happy ending to this meal with Anglo-Indian Bread Pudding.

We poured over the custard emulsion that came with it in a cup and polished our dessert off in no time!
After 15 long years, we're glad that Bombay Brasserie is finally home in Bombay, Worli. With the quirky interiors, great food and a large list of beverages no wonder they've won hearts around the country.

Only if you've lived under a rock you've not looked at the pretty interiors this cafe has and we scaled all the way up north to Mahakali Caves, Andheri for a review.

We started with Peach Ice Tea & Cold Coffee, however, both were a tad too sweet. We munched on Garlic Bread which was pretty good, Potholes of Mumbai and Sundried Tomato Polenta Squares. The polenta squares were rather oily as they left a mark even on the plate after being served. The Potholes of Mumbai perhaps their take on Bunny Chow but with eggs was something that we've never had before.

Mushroom and Caramelised Onion sandwich and Wok Tossed Greens, on the other hand, were rather good. The creamy mushroom complimented the slight sweetness of onions. The slight soy accent in the Wok Tossed Greens was extremely refreshing.

Chocolate Cheesecake

 
For desserts, we gorged on some Mango and Chocolate Cheesecake. Both were not exactly impressive. Mango Cheesecake, an apparent house specialty tasted as though it was made of flavours instead of the fruits. Chocolate was more or less palatable and left an unpleasant layer of fat on the roof of our mouths.
As the last thoughts, it's a good place to hang out with your friends and they do have sheeshas upstairs. Adding to that they have board games and books too, maybe you'd want to stop by for the ambiance, food maybe not.
