Colaba Causeway, Opp. Electric House, Colaba, Mumbai

Good

From Causeway to Orient!

This quaint place on Colaba Causeway truly takes you farther East.

The service was as courteous as the food's taste - both met my expectations.

After a satisfying tom yum soup, my friend and I asked the attendant to suggest some chicken dish which would be 'interesting, mid spicy' and he recommended their chef's special chicken in oyster sauce. - Fabulous recommendation! Coupled with some Malay rice, it was a killer combination.

We added some red wine (Chantilli - nothing much to talk about this. Barely OK) to the meal to complete it.

Damages? Rs.1,100 - very much worth every Rupee!

Go here for the food, service and perhaps the most authentic old-skool Chinese interiors you could see in Mumbai. Right out of a movie, almost!

31, Asha Building, Church Street, Bangalore

Excellent

Just plain(tain) awesome!

'Taste Chettinad' is how the restaurant invites you with it's tagline. And what a smashing taste of chettinad indeed! Cuisine from the Andhra Pradesh state of India in word, is 'chettinad'. With a signature spicy/pungent tone, it'll leave you smacking your fingers (the most ideal way to relish this cuisine is not using any silverware).

Bheemas serves unlimited meals on a plaintain leaf - with a range of delicious vegetable curries, 2 chapatis (you may order more), unlimited rice helping topped with with pure ghee, curd, sweet dish and papad. Arguably the best chettinad place around in Bangalore. All this comes at Rs.70! Other a la carte suggestions: Try their veg/egg biryanis. Spicy goodness!

Plus, service here is great. For a place that serves unlimited portions for their thali, the waiters and maitre d' always make sure you're well taken care of. Hence, 5 on 5 for a fab place.

55/2, Lavelle Road, Bangalore

Good

Bon Vivre!

Echoing the earlier review, this is a very French place - great outdoor seating, umbrella sheds, stone pavements and faux river running around.

Foodwise, great steaks, good crepes and supposedly (I haven't tried any) some fab desserts here. Run by a French chef, I've had the best steak in red wine sauce here - but I should add that when I last checked (for lack of the same taste in my steak) - he was now working with the Leela.

Overall, splendid for a date / relaxed lunch / evening. A meal for 2 would range from around 350 to 450 for starters, juice/soda and main course and about 600 including desserts.

Shilpa Arcade, Road No. 3, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad

Excellent

Yum's the word

Great authentic South Indian cuisine and as Aarti rightly puts it - perfect to the detail with the most amazing chutney and sambar!

Went there on a local friend's insistence and would highly recommend it as a must-visit place in Hyderabad.

20, Paul Castle, Castle Street, Near Brigade Towers, Ashoknagar, Bangalore

Excellent

Great Korean cuisine

This quaint place on Castle Street (close to Fuga and Olive Beach) is the next best thing to being in Korea!

Although I'm no expert on Korean cuisine, I can definitely gauge good food from average and bad food - and this place is just perfect. Start with a traditional jasmine tea with some optional honey. Or try the cream of mushroom soup (which my friend recommends as the best she's ever had).

Placing an order is easy - the menu is replete with pictures and desciptions of all the items, so you know what to expect. I would recommend the fish items (sorry don't remember any names!) and there's some good options for vegetarians too, surprisingly. Once you order, the waiter will get you a wide range of 'kim chi' - small portions / starters, which by themselves are amazing. Especially the tiny baked potatoes which you dip in honey. Delectable.

They don't let you go without a complimentary dessert - which is usually a sweet fruit salad or some tea.

The ambiance is warm and friendly - articulate silverware, bamboo shoots in the backdrop and beautiful chopsticks!
